Probes and Reflectors

A probe constitutes an entity performing active measurements toward other probes or 2xOneWay hosted agents (a.k.a Reflectors). A probe can also perform passive measurement (on well defined traffic streams) from external sources/nodes.

Moreover, a probe implements the functionality to perform first stage measurement analyzes and clock synchronization. A probe has a control/management interface to the SDC.

Note: The PTAnalyzerTM Client will interface the probe directly (via SSH) in case of stand-alone mode.

A 2xOneWay hosted agent constitutes an entity performing active measurements in co-operation with a probe. The 2xOneWay Reflector acts as a slave, while the probe controls the measurement. A Reflector has no control/management interface.

Further, the 2xOneWay hosted agent is available for most common operating systems such as Linux, OpenBSD, FreeBSD, etc, and is suitable and easy to be installed on network elements (servers) or to be integrated in 3rd party vendors products, such as ADSL modem, CPE, etc.
