Echo Session

Echo sessions are used for continuous monitoring of bi-directional connectivity toward any regular IP enabled network element, e.g. server, L3 CPE, managed Ethernet switch, etc.

An Echo session can be configured to use one of the following protocols:

· ICMP Echo Request

The ICMP Echo session is used to measure and report bi-directional connectivity as well as round-trip metrics by using the ICMP Echo protocol, a.k.a ping.

The following metrics are measured and reported:

    • Round-trip Time
    • Round-trip Time variation
    • Packet Statistics (i.e. loss, reorder, duplicated packets)

· UDP Echo Request

The UDP Echo session is used to measure and report bi-directional connectivity as well as round-trip metrics by using the UDP Echo protocol.

The following metrics are measured and reported:

    • Round-trip Time
    • Round-trip Time variation

Packet Statistics (i.e. loss, reorder, duplicated packets)
